Feed grade calcium formate is a calcium salt containing formic acid, containing 31% calcium and 69% formic acid, with a neutral pH value and low water content. Mixing calcium formate into the additive premix will not cause vitamin loss, and under the action of gastric acid, free formic acid can be separated, reducing gastric pH. Calcium formate has a high melting point and can only be decomposed above 400 ºC, without being damaged during the granulation process.


When organic acids are used in feed or mixed into premixes, their acidity can easily lead to the loss of vitamins in feed, which greatly limits their application in feed. Calcium formate can completely overcome these shortcomings. This product is a calcium salt containing formic acid [(CH O2) 2C a], in a white free flowing crystalline or powder form, containing 31% calcium and 69% formic acid. Due to its neutral pH (from 7.3 to 7.6 in 10% aqueous solution) and low water content (up to 0.5%), mixing calcium formate into the additive premix will not cause vitamin loss, and free formic acid can be separated under the action of gastric acid, effectively reducing the pH in the stomach, playing a positive role in maintaining appropriate acidity in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, due to the high melting point of calcium formate, it can be decomposed above 400 ºC, so during the granulation process, calcium formate will not be damaged.
As a new type of feed additive, calcium formate is also particularly suitable for weaned piglets. The nutritional effect of calcium formate is mainly achieved through its decomposition of formic acid in the stomach environment.
