Chlortetracycline, also known as chlorotetracycline, has the chemical formula C22H23ClN2O8. It is a golden yellow crystalline powder produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces aureus. The fermentation broth is acidified and filtered to form a precipitate, which is dissolved in ethanol and then subjected to acid precipitation to obtain a crude product. After dissolution and salt formation, it is crystallized into hydrochloride.

Chloramphenicol has inhibitory effects on both Gram positive and negative bacteria, and can treat diseases such as typhoid fever and white dysentery in livestock and poultry. It can also be used as a growth promoting agent for pig feed. Used for broiler feed under 10 weeks of age, with a dosage of 20-50g/t and a 7-day discontinuation period; Used for pig feed under 2 months old, with a dosage of 25-75g/t and a 7-day discontinuation period.
