Diisononyl phthalate, also known as DINP, is a transparent oily liquid with a slight odor. It is a versatile plasticizer with excellent performance. This product has good compatibility with PVC and will not precipitate even if used in large quantities; The volatility, migration, and non-toxicity of the product are superior to DOP (di octyl phthalate), which can endow the product with good light resistance, heat resistance, aging resistance, and electrical insulation performance. The overall performance is better than DOP. Due to its excellent water and extraction resistance, low toxicity, aging resistance, and excellent electrical insulation performance, the products produced by this product are widely used in toy films, wires, and cables.
Compared with DOP, DINP has a larger molecular weight and longer carbon chain, resulting in better aging performance, migration resistance, extraction resistance, and higher high-temperature resistance. Correspondingly, under the same conditions, the plasticizing effect of DINP is slightly worse than that of DOP. It is generally believed that DINP is more environmentally friendly than DOP.
DINP has advantages in improving extrusion efficiency. Under typical extrusion processing conditions, DINP is more capable of reducing the melt viscosity of the mixture than DOP, which helps to reduce die pressure, reduce mechanical wear, or increase extrusion productivity (up to 21%). This increase in productivity can be achieved without changing the product formula and production process, requiring additional fixed investment, energy consumption, and maintaining product quality.
